Susan dreams of a normal life, but humans have different plans. Her creator expects artificial intelligence to save the world. Others want a sex toy or a super soldier. And some fear AI will destroy humanity, so they strike first.
The lab in ruins, Susan forges a human identity and lives with her best friend. He’s careful not to use her, but that only makes their relationship more complicated. Around them civilization slowly crumbles. Technology has always been there like a lover to rescue Man. This time she expects a man to love her back.
I very much enjoyed SuSan. The slow decline of everything slowly coming to the forefront gave an edge to the experiences of Susan as she grew.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Any ETA on Cities of the Dead? Also, any sci-fi book recommendations?
ETA for CoD — Hopefully no more than a year. I’ve been busy with other creative work (programming), but expect to get back to it in the next few weeks. Sorry that’s not a shorter turnaround, but I do still have that proverbial day job to keep up with.
Sci-fi book recommendations — I’ve been reading through the top 100 books on this site: http://scifilists.sffjazz.com/lists_books_rank1.html
There are lots of curated lists out there. I like this particular one because it is the result of continual voting, rather than a one-time survey or one person’s opinion. The top 3 (Dune, Ender’s Game, Hitchhiker’s Guide) definitely belong there. I’m also partial to Perelandra by C.S. Lewis, even though it has been pushed off the list by newer books.
