Internet tracking

In another disturbing episode of Facebook data connectivity, ads are now showing up on my news feed for the exact item I looked at on Home Depot’s site a few days ago.

The good news is that ads for beautiful young (or middle-aged) women are disappearing from my FB news page. The bad news is that they are gradually being replaced by ads for delivery pizza and ceramic washers that hardly anyone has ever heard of.

I can imagine a number of different ways FB could get this info on me. The troubling things is I don’t know. An exact description of the technical means may be buried somewhere in clause 13 of those agreements you never read but simply click “yes” to. I doubt it though.

There should be a law that requires all these companies to disclose their technical means and their interconnections. Then my browser of choice (Firefox) should develop some high-powered countermeasures.
